Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority was established in 2014, pursuant to the Amiri Decree No. 55 of 2014, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah.

In 2015, Law No. (8) of 2015 was issued on organizing the objectives, powers and competences of the Authority, and the objectives of the Authority are to liaise and coordinate with the government and private entities concerned with prevention, inspection and safety in order to attain the protection of community and ensuring the safety thereof, as well as contributing to the prevention of accidents and the protection of life and property, so as to realize the public safety and developing the sense of awareness among members of society on the conducts and procedures of prevention and the significance thereof on the public safety, as well as applying the upmost safety and quality standards applied universally.

The authorities and powers of Prevention and Safety Authority comprised of suggesting the general regulations and conditions required for the general prevention of accidents, and any associated risks which the facilities or employees may encounter, along with, proposing the regulations and conditions of inspecting the facilities and updating them periodically. Moreover, the Authority is undertaking a mission of preparing the required technical and human capabilities in cooperation and coordination with the concerned entities, in order to activate and manage the preventions and risks mitigating schemes..

The Authority is pledged to support government entities in taking the instant measures and procedures as required for preventing or eliminating any violations of the conditions of accident and risk prevention, as well as to coordinate with the competent authorities in the event of accidents that may jeopardize the public safety, and to contribute with those entities in eliminating the negative or adverse effects that may result from accidents pursuant to the approved regulations, and may use the general controls and conditions for prevention and safety as applied in the State.

The Authority is responsible for developing and assuming special training programs on prevention and safety, in order to raise the capacity of those concerned, as well as preparing, developing and implementing awareness raising programs on prevention, safety and occupational health.
